STUDIO EDITION

Rudolph Schindler, Lovell Beach House, 1922-1926

Studio Highlight

The Lovell Beach House by Rudolf Schindler is an early and radical exploration of reinforced concrete as spatial structure. The stacked frames and suspended volumes create a composition that reads as both structural system and visual rhythm. In this drawing, I focused on the interlocking concrete planes, the open voids between the frames, and the vertical circulation elements that anchor the composition.

Rather than presenting the house as a scene, the image isolates its structural grammar, frame, slab, opening, and shadow, so the tectonic logic and proportional tension become the primary subject.
