STUDIO EDITION

Louis Tenaerts, Maison Marit (Maison Tenaerts), 1930

Maison Marit is one of Louis Tenaerts’ best-known 'pakketboot' houses. Inspired by the streamlined forms of ocean liners, it combines Art Deco geometry with an unusually modern facade composition. Tenaerts designed more than 1,500 buildings during his career and left an unmistakable mark on Brussels, especially in Uccle, where entire streets still contain his work. Avenue Coghen alone features 17 houses by the architect. For this drawing I placed the building against a dark background, allowing the stained-glass window and sculptural facade to take center stage.
