About the artwork

Pierre Koenig, an acclaimed American architect, made a lasting impact on modernist design with the completion of the Oberman House in 1962. The house embodies the essence of the Mid-Century Modern Architecture movement, which emphasized sleek simplicity and practical functionality.

The Oberman residence has received numerous awards. A jury chaired by architect Edward Killingsworth included it in the group of the “36 most significant buildings built in Los Angeles since 1947” with the following motivation: “Refined example of imaginative use of industrial materials for a well-structured and detailed home”.

Because the building has passed from owner to owner over the years, many changes have been made. Windows have been replaced by walls and the residence now has a regular pointed roof.
